I currently building a baby salvator his mid sized viv. I am wanting to put in lots a logs to climb and fake or real plants so he can hide in them / look nice.
I was wondering would any live plants be suitable or if he will just rip them up etc etc as he gets bigger.
Maybe something that would grow on the back wall and hang down etc
He is only 17" at the moment but he is eating great so hopefully he will get a growth spert soon.
Also what is the best way to plant, grow, care for live plants in large vivs _________________ 1.1.0 Bearded Dragons - Girr and Lenore

I just use fake plants. I got a whole lot of fake ivy and trailing plants in bunches from a cash and carry- it cost about 70p for each bunch. I use them with all my snakes and lizards, and you can fix them easily to a wall if you want them trailing or hanging down. I've never used live plants with my monitor, but I suspect they wouldn't last very long! _________________

Monitors aren't exactly known for being dainty
Stick with fake, it'll save you a fortune in the future. |

Ive had and still got a few live plants in my viv they look good and seem to add a nice smell to the place, but Ive had to replace them twice as
they don't seem to live long but you may have more luck, i keep them potted up in substrate. |

If you have any pictures arch I would love to see them.
I am thinking of using coco mat on the back and maybe sides of my viv.
And hopefully have something planted at the top maybe? So hes not going to rip it up when he goes for a dig around.
I have been looking at this website http://www.dartfrog.co.uk/plants.html
Anything I should stay away from, could hurt my little guy, something that would rot in the coco mat on the walls.
Any other suppliers, caresheets of how to plant them etc, I wanna read up and learn as much as I can.
I'm think I'm going to use a mixture of fake and a few real and see how he gets on. I think I have more chance of keeping some plants alive at the moment as hes so young compared to great big monster running about.[/url] _________________ 1.1.0 Bearded Dragons - Girr and Lenore

I'm trying to get some photos on soon, my monitor is just under a year old and hasn't started ripping things yet, i have found some fake plants
on the floor but that could be because they were old and weak. the coconut matting sound good i wanted to do something to cover the sides in my Viv but never did it. love to see the finished product, were you thinking on having lots of real plants? |
