I am interested in getting a couple of crested geckos and MANY places have said that the terrarium is an ideal home for these lizards. I saw a petshops website and it stated they did not sell reptiles to go in glass tanks so i sent an email asking why this was and that i'd got the biggest terrarium and many people had said it was great for cresties
i got this back Quote: | In our opinion glass tanks are completely unsuitable for reptiles as
it,
especially with a fully ventilated lid, is almost impossible to
maintain a
steady ambient temperature which is vital for these animals. We have
tried
glass and plastic in the past and find them substandard for the animals
in
question, we only use and recommend wooden enclosures for reptiles. I
have
not sexed both geckos but know there is at least one male. We have no
delivery system at the moment, only collection. We will stress though
that
our reptiles will only be sold to go into wooden vivariums.

Well to be honest That is rubish beacuse they need ventilation and humidity.
the exo terre is good for bothof them because the screen top gives good ventilation but not too much and it stops the air from going stagment.
An all wooden viv could rot with too much humidity and they have hardly any vents so in humid environment the air can go stagment.
wooden cages are best suted in my opinion to desert animals not sub tropical rain forest animals (sumet like that)
Also exo terra's are good because they have height which not many wooden enclosures have.
crested geckos need height as they are tree dwelling geckos.

That's a pretty laughable reply to be honest .
From what he/she says theoretically chameleons and any other reptiles kept in fully ventilated mesh vivariums or even glass vivariums with a mesh lid (as stated) would struggle. I pointed out chams as most species require a fully ventilated viv to thrive...
Many people say that the exo terras are the best for Rhacs, for good reason. They provide excellent ventilation, and it is also possible to maintain a fairly consistent level of humidity, with the right techniques. Also, consistent AMBIENT air temp is dependant on where the vivariums are actually placed, not what they are made from . I know Scott uses full mesh vivarums, and also highly recommends the exo terras... a wooden viv would probably be a disadvantage, with regular spraying etc problems would occur.
So, use the exo terra that you have already bought, as they are perfect for Rhacs. That is a rather annoying response to someone that has obviously read up about correct housing for crested geckos.

The all mesh vivs aren't so good in my opinion, a bit to delicate and they would be rather hard to keep warm enough, etc.
That stuff about the exo-terra glass viv is total rubbish! I keep all my arboreal geckos in these vivs. _________________ Kind Regards,
