Does anyone on here breed viper geckos? I picked up two from Hamm. The female is clearly adult and is nice and plump, but the male is about two thirds of her length and a fraction of her bulk. At the moment they are kept seperately on paper towel substrate but would like to breed soon as poss really. Anyone have any thoughts on when i should introduce them and what else i need to do other than provide calcium for the female and a dish of sand for egg laying?

I used to breed them (sadly my trio are no longer with us). There isn't that much difference in the size of the males and females, so I would wait until they are both the same size before introducing them. I basically put them together and let them get on with it for about a week, then I took the male out. I could've probably left him in with the females as they seem to be more laid back than any of the other geckos I have kept (keep). He seemed to do his job and then leave them alone.

ok thanks Jackie. What substrate did you keep them on and did you make any provisions for egg laying?

I kept them on kitchen paper and had a glazed plant pot saucer filled with sand for the females to lay in. I also provided a moist hide (filled with moss) but they always used the saucer for fertile eggs. I covered the saucer with a piece of cork bark to give them some security.

I keep mine on sand and have had 4 hatch in the last few days and another 8 eggs to go Very Happy

I used to keep and breed viper geckos a couple of years back. I started out keeping them on sand until one of mine died through eating sand. So I changed to kitchen towel and a small area of sand for laying eggs. I kept my 1 male in with the two females all the time, with no adverse effects. They were extremely prolific so definately keep on top of giving supplements.
