MJ- You asked too see my snake room? Here you go mate>

Funnily enough, this room originally was considered by myself to be my dressing room. I make pine furniture so I filled it with chests, bookcases and a wardrobe.

Then I got into snakes..........well I think you can probably guess what happened next Laughing Laughing

See the wardrobe on the left? That will soon be replaced with another pine unit containing two 4' enclosures...........

As you can see I keep my juveniles double-caged.......

Racks are great if your a breeder or have a large collection Very Happy

However I like my animals on display and I like Herptek vivs.

They're easy to clean, completely escape proof (handy when you keep venomous and have to satisfy inspectors) and will last a lifetime.

In fact they'll probably out-live me never mind the snakes Laughing

And I think they look cool and thats all that matters! Cool

Did you have any set conditions that you have to abide by?

My inspection was done by a Canadian veterinary surgeon who had experience of hots both in the field and in captivity.
My snake room you see in the photo has two entry/exit points, both locked and only I have the keys and acsess to them.
When I first applied I was planning on keeping juveniles to begin with and I showed the vet how they would be safely double-caged in escape proof tubs, kept inside an escape proof Herptek viv.
Also I showed the vet the herptek viv in detail including the rear and vents and he was satisfied that public safety wasn't being threatened.

We had a talk about how I would safely care for the animals regarding feeding, safe handling with hooks and tongs ect. and that their welfare would be taken care of. And that was pretty much everything considered as far as conditions were concerned.

To be honest though I feel that my LA were very reasonable with my application, imposing practical and "do-able" conditions that were quite easily achieved, given that the person applying uses a bit of common sense.

I've heard of the restrictions and conditions set by other LA's and they're ridiculous to say the least ,who's sole intention is to deter people from applying in the first place.
