Sorry Cleef, i maybe didn't make myself clear in my last post. I do not hang the pothos from the top of the vivarium. I plant it in the bottom substrate.
Because they were originally grown for hanging purposes they have long runners which can be 'trained' to grow over the back and sides of your vivarium. I also wrap them around branches and bamboo.
Sorry for the confusion. _________________ Fraser Gilchrist

No problem, I see what you mean now. There's a few longer vines developing on the pothos I have at the moment, and they grow quite quickly so hopefully it won't take long to start training some up the bamboo.
What lighting do you use out of interest. I'll be using a halogen spot on a dimmer stat for the basking area, 5% UVB tube and, a brighter, 6500 kelvin daylight tube. I thought the UVB tube would be alright on its own but it is rather dim _________________ Steve P |

I have kept Day Geckos for over ten years now and have experimented greatly both in terms of enclosures, heating, lighting etc etc.
I have now settled on husbandry techniques that work for me but more importantly work for my animals.
Here is a run down of what i use to house, furnish, heat and light my phelsuma:
I use Exo Terra Vivariums exclusively for my adults. I remove the background and cover it instead with coco bark / panel. I also adhere coco bark / panels to either side also. ( so this covers three sides )
I use Eco Earth Substrate mixed with a little orchid bark.
I stick bamboo canes to the sides to provide horizontal basking areas. I also have some at an angle. There are holes or priests cut in the bamboo to provide hiding and laying spots.
I plant 1 or 2 pothos plants to provide dense cover.
I use a heat mat which covers the right hand side of the vivarium. This is on a thermostat.
I use a UV light directly on the top of the vivarium, this provides enough light and also a little extra heat. My geckos are kept on 12 hour day - night cycles.
I am in the process of installing an automatic misting system to spray all my vivs periodically through the day.
( This is the techniques i use and they have served me well. My animals are happy, healthy and breed well. ) _________________ Fraser Gilchrist

Thanks for the low down, very helpful. Could you possibly get some pictures of your setups, no probelm if it is too much hassle though as you have described them well enough. I always like seeing other peoples setups _________________ Steve P |

I'm picking up a single CB06 laticauda laticauda next sunday, which I am very pleased about
A pair would have been ideal but the place I am buying from are fairly sure they only have females. I should be able to get a mate later on in the spring though _________________ Steve P |

Well, I collected the gold dust today. She is roughly 3-4 inches and from what I can tell, is female.
She was is very flighty, darting around on the floor and burying herself frantically in the substrate initially. After a few hours though she is now climbing about/hiding down bamboo.
I mixed a small amount of CGD with a hint of honey that I have seen her lap up, also one of the three crickets that I put in a feeding bowl has disappeared, and I'm pretty sure they cannot jump out so all looks good at the moment.
She certainly looks very healthy and well fed. Pretty dull at the moment, but she will still be stressed out due to the move, also the quality of light she was being kept under at the shop wasn't great anyway.
I'll post pictures as I see more of her, for now I just hope she settles in well _________________ Steve P |
