Hi Cleef, Gold Dust Day Geckos, like any animal for that matter, are relatively easy to keep in captivity, provided their basic husbandry requirements are met and understood. Deviate from these 'safe' perameters and you will / may encounter problems. Preventing a problem is ALWAYS better than trying to cure one!!! _________________ Fraser Gilchrist

I used to keep my favourite day gecko Phelsuma quadriocellata - the peacock day gecko, I have also kept Phelsuma dubia - the dull day geckos. I find it quite odd that there aren't many phelsuma keepers around any more they used to be really popular but since Rhacs became more popular the day geckos seem to have faded into the background. I would love to keep them again as they are so entertaining and always on the move but getting hold of any is the problem - does anyone on here keep or breed peacocks? _________________ 20 years experience in reptile keeping.

I keep Peacock Day Geckos. Infact, i have some eggs incubating at the moment. I have to agree that the Peacock or the Neon are my favourite species.
I went the opposite way from Rhacs to Day Geckos!!! _________________ Fraser Gilchrist

I think the second lizard i owned was P.Cepediana which i housed in a massive viv built for an iggy along with a few other species of Phelsuma about 5 species i think, all in together about 20 in total (had a Saturday job in a reptile shop, about 20 years ago,and got them all from there) and the Cepediana was allways my favourite day gecko, 5 years ago i got to see them in the wild, quite abundant too. Now im after getting some again, but no luck as yet. _________________ www.Reptilebreeder.co.uk

Phelsuma cepediana truly is a spectacular species. I think the best bet for obtaining this species and other less common species would be from European breeders.
I have often considered getting a shipment in from such a breeder. Maybe if there was enough interest we could all club together and order some of these less common Day Geckos?
I would love to observe Day Geckos in the wild, maybe one day!!! _________________ Fraser Gilchrist

Hi BloodyCurtis,
I keep and breed, some for the first time hopefully this year:
P. standingi,
P. madagascariensis,
P. m. grandis,
P. m. kochi,
P. klemmeri,
P. dubia,
P. laticuda,
P. s. ladiguensis,
P. robertmertensi,
P. quadriocellata,
P. lineata,
P. comoroensis
P. barbouri
If your friend was interested, i would be keen on straight swaps for hatchlings? I am interested in acquiring new 'blood' for my collection. _________________ Fraser Gilchrist

Hi, I used to keep a few and did have some success with lineata, ornata and also klemmeri. Not kept any phelsuma for a while, but have just moved house and will more than likely find room for some more in the future.
Would love to see some pictures of your animals/set ups. Dont worry about camera quality, I don`t! _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD

Ive loved day geckos ever since i was given a book on there care when younger. After stopping keeping reps for a few years and re-entering the hobby so to speak, I would only now really consider myself experienced enough to keep them. Klemmeri are probably my favourite but not sure of their suitability for a newcomer to Phelsuma. I'm of to Hamm in march and would love to come back with a pair of day geckos but dont really want to spend more than £60 (90euro). Ive got a spare arboreal dartfrog viv (30x39x70) that I was hoping to use. can any one recommend me a species or two to look for, hopefully with the object of future breeding in mind? To be honest i love all Phelsuma so am not bothered which!
Have any of you Phelsuma keepers ever kept any Lygodactylus? _________________ Tom
