Did anyone see the monitor that was caught an eaten by native australians on Ray Mears new show on BBC2 tonight? It really was a beautiful lizard, think it might of been a water monitor but my knowledge in this area is sadly lacking. Was slightly saddened to see it end up on the cooking fire but I guess Id much rather see people eating wild monitor lizard than almost any meat available in British supermarkets.

Hi Tom,
I didn't see them catch it but did see it on the fire, wouldn't of been a water monitor but I couldn't tell what it actually was. The camera crew all said it tasted like fish or chicken. _________________

As frustrating as it is for us to see the animal being eaten, I get as much satisfaction in a different way of seeing indigenous people living the way that they have the right too. I might be wrong but I think that there are areas of Australia now that only Aboriginal families have the rights of access to. Long may it continue. _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD

they are allowed to hunt several species that are protected by australian law I think, like sea turtles and dugong. I would certainly wouldnt turn my nose up at monitor lizard, just as I wouldnt at rabbit which is a far more common pet. |
