hi marbled newt keepers Smile i was just wondering if you change the newts from terrestrial to aquatic annualy or do you keep them aquatic all year round?
its just every place ive read on the net does it diffferently and last year i went terrestrial to aquatic and now they are back to terrestrial again cheers stu

in an aquaterrarium they can make up their own minds. personally ive found marbled to be a more terrestrial species in their habits than other european newts

Yep offer them a choice of both can't go wrong then! Stunning newts and they breed very easily to.

cheers for the help i was hoping to breed them this year Very Happy on the terrestrial side do you keep them on eco earth (peat)? or another substrate?

mine are just on moss as they are babaies at the moment. I should think the standard "drainage (leca), peat/biologically active yet chemical free compost and moss set up would be fine. Maybe a mix of bark chips and moss for top layer.

mine are on bark chips, half of which are covered by moss. there are hides at both ends, they show a marked preference for the drier areas.
