Over the past year or so I have been getting slightly more interested in snakes (I keep lizards at the mo). Im still not overly keen on any larger species so would perhaps like to start with something quite small.
I have thought about corns and milk snakes, but at the moment im more interested in milk snakes. So i have some questions about them that I havnt managed to find out for myself.
I have read there are many sub species, which are generally available?
Do they vary greatly in size? I only have a 30" x 11" viv available for anything when adult. Would this be suitable for any sub species?
Any other recommendations anyone has?
Thanks |

They do vary, quite a few are smaller than corns, a good one for you would be Pueblan, or Nelsons.
When young, they are wilder than corns but as they grow they usually become easily handleable.
They rarely bite, unless your fingers smell of mouse.
Your viv would just about house a small species milk. _________________ John

I'd agree with John that something like a Pueblan Milk or a Variable King would be suited as an adult to that sized viv..
If it's your first snake (and you already have a viv.) you might want to consider a yearling to start with as the youngsters can be very flighty so if you're not used to handling them they can be difficult to control.
To help you decide I've posted pictures of mine :
Pueblan -
Male Variable -
Female Variable -
Good luck with whatever you choose.
