Hi, i already have three snakes and a bearded dragon, i am thinking of getting a yemen chameleon, is this design any good for the viv, if not, why not? what would you change? the dimensions are 4 foot high by 3 foot wide by 1 1/2 foot deep, and the main part will be made from wood.
thanks. _________________ I want a JCP, a BRB, a Burm and a group of leo's. I've got a Royal, a Common Boa, a Corn, a BD, a Chile Rose and a Budgie |

A splendid size viv, what will the top be made of all mesh on a frame?
looks like my first ever yemen viv, which is 4ft high 3ft wide and 2 ft deep. Mine was a solid wood one with sliding front glass doors. I had to customise it, 75% mesh on both side panels, 75% mesh top in two panels, and a lower bottom front row of vents and various vents in back panel.
Main thing is to achieve cross airflow from bottom to top to exhaust the warm air via the top and draw in from front bottom to ensure good air circulation and no stale air build up. Maybe extend the mesh panels further down the sides?
From the plan it looks ideal for an adult Yemen. How will you finish the insides of the panels? _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

top will be mesh,, i posted this on a different forum and was suggested to make one of the doors a mesh one, what do you think? making the side vents bigger is no problem, my other vivs have two and a half inch round vents in the back panel, i could use 5-6 along the top and bottom in the back. Finish? do you mean to stop the wood rotting, all my other vivs are plain wood because the humidity doesnt need to be as high as for a cham, what would you suggest.I was also thinking of using two minifans at the bottom to help move the air around. I would not bother with the mesh door. The ventilation with the tweaks as you detailed in my view are fine. Yeah the finish I asked due to misting etc and preservation of the wood, I use masonery paint. Also resistant to UV damage.
I think the fans are a nice idea and would perhaps suggest a computer fan but placed at the top, but again I dont think this is totally necessary.
The use of a fan will provide a more even temperature throughout the viv, Ok if this is what you want to achieve. I kind of feel a temperature variation is a better thing so the cham can chose its own gradient of preference at different times.
With heat at the top end via basking light etc this will draw hot air up and cool air in via lower vents and hot air out via upper vents, this should suffice in my view. A natural crossflow of air circulation will then be achieved. _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

i'd make the top of the viv one big msh vent and loose the vent above the glass.
make the side vents bigger like rickeezee said _________________ ULI |

I use the computer fans in the incubator to heat the air evenly, the main problem with them is the vibration, (No silly jokes please Rick ) I got it down to a minimum but don't know what a Cham would think of it tbh xxxxxxxxx |
