Probably best to use play sand or similar.
This is what they live on in the wild (sandy dust...not play sand ) _________________

Maybe tiles or similar?
When did they swallow it, during eating or voluntarily. _________________

swallowing sand is not good either mate can cause impaction , id stay away from peat etc , use a solid substrate as discussed earlier that way u have no risks _________________ http://www.beardieboard.com/ |

For most terrestrial lizards i would use a play sand and topsoil mix. I mix them together(50/50) and give it a good misting with the the spray gun and pat it down firmly with a small shovel. I then turn on all the heating appliances and throw in a 500w fan heater to dry the substrate out, this leaves the top layer with a fairly hard crust. Obviously you don't want high humidity with your dragon so leaving the doors open during this period would allow for the humidity to escape.
I have used this mix for the last couple of years with my bosc monitor and i am currently using it for my ackie. |
