I'm interested in getting a Gila Monster, and was wondering what you guys think of them as pets?

Hi Jim,

All depends on what you mean as a pet?

Gila's are great lizards, easy to keep, totally undemanding but fascinating to watch too BUT they are venomous, I heard only a few days ago about an experienced keeper bitten by one of his gilas and ending up in hospital for a few days (not in the UK).

They are definately not a lizard to play with but a beautiful animal to observe.

regards
Scott

Shrewsbury's council make it impossible to own a Gila monster. But 10 miles away in Telford, it's easier to get a Gila than it is to get a hamster. Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

slight exaggeration but yeah, shrewsbury council dont like DWA. The more people that show interest....the better thou. Contact them about it, show interest.... If more people show that they want to safely keep venomous animals, they will have to listen. or carry on having a few illigal keepers in shrewsbury:-)

It still takes the right room setup, insurance, vet costs and the DWA price to legally keep dwa animals. Just my council are not d*cks:-)
