Hi people,

My Crestie is about 4 months old, ive seen him munch on quite a few crickets but he doesn't ever seem interested in the supplement, bit concerned.

Any help or advice

Sam

Hi Sam, what supplement are you using?

If you are using CGD then i have found that sometimes if you only mix water into it then the geckos seem less drawn to it, add some baby food (fruity flavour and organic if possible) if you already add baby food add a little more until the gecko is feeding more frequently then you can start to drop the amounts of baby food until there is only a small amount in with the CGD and the water.

I don't know about others on here but I've found that my baby cresites are more interested in live food. While they will eat the supplement eventually they'd rather chase the crickets down.

Once they get to around 6 months old they seem to switch to eating more of the supplement and be more fussy about eating the crickets/locusts.

Has anyone else noticed this?

To clarify - supplements are added to food in the form of calcium carbonate and/or multivitamins (eg. Nutrobal). CGD etc are meal replacements.

I too find baby Cresteds will relish crickets more so than fruits.

mycresties also prefer live food, but they would never refuse babyfood, you should mix baby food with the supplement, if they still refuse it feed them with a spoon, that works 100%

I tend not to offer my Rhacs crickets until they are 2 months old then they get one feed a week of crickets and 2-3 feeds of CGD or GGD (depending on what they are) a week. From hatching to 2 months old they get offered CGD or GGD every other day and calcium suppliment once a week.

I have found the best way to get them 'switched on' to CGD is to make it very watery and then remove the drinking water from the viv for 24 hours and replace it with the watery CGD.

I mix my CGD with some chopped up banana, pref Very ripe
mix in a bit of baby food and dribble the CGD over the lot.
My cresteds dont attack it straight away, but give them an hour and they're
wolfing it down, the Chahoua seem to prefer it to livefood, and definately
prefer it when its been in the viv for 24 hours Laughing
