One of our larger snakes has a real liking for rotting flesh and only ever eats rats that have been in the viv for 2 days minimum. He is also somewhat of a picky bu**er when it comes to eating in that i can offer him a rat the size of his widest point but he will refuse it, unable to get it past his jaws. As a result feeding time is allways a trial. I usually give him weaners or small rats but occasionally i have bigger ones spare so i try him with those. He will have a go at eating them but get so far and change his mind and spit it out again (usually when he hits the front feet) so i have to try to judge how big he will take.

On saturday i left a rat in for him that was allways going to be questionable. This morning i got up to that lovelly smell of rotting rat. Went into the snake room only to find he had tried the rat, decided against it and in spitting it out thrown it directly under the heater.

You can imagine my reaction to this early morning attack on my senses. I had the smell (which allways gets worse the second you move the item) along with the sight of the rat with torn stomach from bloating and a little bit of sick in my mouth, yummmy.

My favourite way to start the day!!!

Anyone else have odd feeders?
