Hi, sorry for not introducing myself earlier. My names Gary.
I have 1 male C calyptratus,5 deadleaf mantids -D dessiccata nymphs, two hercules baboon spiders, tropical fish, 2 german shepards and a weimeraner.
My main passion are monitors and mantids.
I had a beautiful male rescued asian water monitor for 8 years or so, but lost my job and had to sell my house. Unfortunatly i couldnt find a place at the time that would let me keep a goldfish let alone a 7 ft lizard.he had been lodging with proteus reptile rescue for a while but in the end i had to ask them for a bit more help and they found him a home in tenerife, which made me feel a lot better, and no doubt him too.
Allthough he had more of my front room than i did, ensuite bath the works.
Ive settled down again now and have a 20 month old son[Bohan] who is just the right age to start studying "creatures"
so im dreaming up a new enclosure, I have 8ft of hight, 4.5ft of width and 3 ft of depth to play with but i'm still undecided as to what varanid to design it for, i have 3 finalists :- V prasinus, V tristis and V glauerti all of which i believe could well utilize these dimensions, but would prefer different conditions.
any way ive rattled on a bit now.

Cheers all.

Hi Gary, welcome.

I'd go for prasinus or tristis, the height will be wasted on the glauerti.

Hi guys, thanx for the response.
Im not sure if i should continue this here but anyway, i thought of Glauerti as well, as i have read that they have been seen on verticle rock faces and i thought that if i decided apon these i could build a rock face using polystyrene, tile grout or sand and epoxy resin to create plenty of ledges, slopes, crags and shelves so that they can utilize all the hight and not be hanging on for grim death all the time. But as you said they may not be as well suited to this as the other two types...
So i've wittled it down to prasinus and tristis now, and which ever, i'd like a group of.

gotta go now, adios
