|
|
Hi all
I'm new to the forum having arrived via Peter Parrot (thanks again Peter). I am very much hoping that somebody may be able to help me with my search for my favourite species of colubrid, the speckled king snake, L. g. holbrooki.
I've been trying in vain all summer to source some pure-bred individuals of any age, the younger the better though, and have posted wanted ads on several online classified ads and other locations with very little success. I'm gutted not to have found this forum earlier than now but at least I have now! So does anybody out there still keep pure-bred speckleds of normal colouration, not interested in albinos particularly, and if so does anyone still breed them too?
It seems that in the lengthy time I've spent out of the hobby, this and many other species of kings and milks have plummeted in popularity which is a real shame in my opinion as they are such beautiful animals. It's really encouraging to read posts written by keen king and milk keepers here and I'm hoping that one of you (but the more the merrier!) will be able to help me in my quest to source my personal favourite.
I'll look forward to hearing from you. Feel free either to respond here or PM/email me if you prefer. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Jonathan. Holbrooki has been on my wish list for a while also but has been pushed to the back of my mind somewhat by other projects. You have just ressurected it so thanks for that!
I would have thought that Europe would be the most likely source, and I shall start my blood hound search. Hopefully I can track some down for both of us. As they say two sets of eyes are better than one. _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD

Thanks Peter
Hadn't realised you were after some too - such a shame they're not readily available like they were when I bought my last ones (was 15 or so years ago mind!) as they are so fantastic. Hopefully some will materialise soonish....
I was offered some by a breeder in Sweden who responded to one of my classified ads but I have to say that I was too nervous of paying for unseen animals, and then putting them through the stress of a potentially lengthy transportation, to go for them. European shows may be the best chance I guess, but I don't see myself having the funds to go over there myself for some time to come!
As you said two sets of eyes are indeed better than one , same thing applies for tomorrow at the AES show I guess, Shaz and I are on the case to look out for your jungle nymphs and liaise about the best deal as a bit of a tag team!

Appreciated Jonathan. (My P. celebicum arrived today! )
I am already on the case with the Holbrooki and have spoken to someone with a European contact so fingers crossed. _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD

Great stuff Peter. Am potentially on the lookout for some Phyllium spp. myself tomorrow, if they are sensibly priced that is.
Will look forward to news re. holbrooki, I'll have to plead to my family for an early Christmas pressie if anything comes off before the end of the year!

Glades herp in the USA had a speckled king in, not sure if it's still there.
My friend orders from there a few times a year.

If I could get away with it I would, but I'd need to be given them in that case rather than pay anything for them!
Thanks for the link Mike, will send them an email. Would really prefer CB stock only though... |

Sure thing scarlettvegetable (great name by the way), the more options the merrier as far as I'm concerned! Do you mind passing my name onto them, or perhaps you could PM me with their details if you'd prefer?
Thanks for your help.
