So now it's coming up to the breeding season, I was interested in what everyone does.
Do you alter photoperiods or leave natural light entering the room as your photoperiod?
What ambient background room temps do you try to maintain?
What day time basking temp do you give?
What night time basking temp do you give? (if any?)
Do you continue to offer food?
How long do you maintain this cycle for?
How long do you leave the male in with the female?
How many females do you let the male mate with?
When do you actually start this cycle? _________________

cheers Peter, good luck with that.
I haven't quite decided what I'm doing yet. I have no natural light so will be adjusting the photo period manually. _________________

So now it's coming up to the breeding season, I was interested in what everyone does.
Do you alter photoperiods or leave natural light entering the room as your photoperiod? Yes. Reduce photoperiod from 14 hrs day/10 hrs night to 10 hours day/14 hrs night.
What ambient background room temps do you try to maintain? 75 day, 60 night.
What day time basking temp do you give? 90 degrees throughout year.
What night time basking temp do you give? (if any?) 80 degrees source temp, approx 72 degrees tub surface temp.
Do you continue to offer food? Yes.
How long do you maintain this cycle for? Start October 1st, end March 31st
How long do you leave the male in with the female? 3 days on, 3 days off.
How many females do you let the male mate with? 1:1,2:1, 2:2.
When do you actually start this cycle? Start to lower temps and photoperiod gradually on 14 September. Raise temps and photoperiod gradually 1st April. _________________ If you don't know, ask! |

thanks Eric, interesting to see how long you cycle your animals for. When do you normally have your first eggs laid / hatched?
Do you think the only reason captive balls lay/hatch so late is that most are cycled a lot later? _________________

So I am clear on one point.
The basking temp is kept the same as the rest of the year for the daylight hours.
thanks

Spot on Pete! Ralph has a lot of success cycling them using that method, so why change it if it works! A light spraying daily or every other day seems to put them 'in the mood', immitating the wet season in West Africa.
Clutches usually start to appear from April, but can be as late as July/August.
If the snakes will eat throughout the cooling period - feed 'em', - especially the males! Smaller prey sizes though.
Some gravid females will feed up to ovulation, and feed sooner after laying. _________________ If you don't know, ask! |

when u remove the eggs do u major clean the viv, tub etc to remove the egg smell, and do u wash the female after egg deposition to remove smell of eggs to allow the snake to feed quicker? _________________ 1.0 striped supersalmon DEAD
