|

hi there .
im thinking of getting a crestie or two and was wanting a list of all the things im going to need .
viv- been looking at a extra large exo terra one .
substrate - kitchen roll for babies and sand when they are older ?
heat/light - strip light 2.0 uv
food - CGD every two days / dusted crickets the other two
days
viv accessories- plenty plants / bark to climb and hide in
is it best to keep them seperate unless wanting them to breed ?
obviously dont keep to males together .
does CGD offer enough calcium or would calcium be needed too ?
any thing else that i will need as im starting from scratch
cheers for any help _________________ Eyeless frogs welcome...

extra large exo terra is fine.
i wouldnt use sand as ur substrate it dries out very quickly adn cresties need quite a fair humidity. Eco earth i probably the best thing to use, holds water well and keeps humidity up.
live plants are good for this too. good plants for cresties are ficus, umbrella plants, pothos, dracacea, bamboo.
lots of vertical climbing is always good.
if you know the sexes and you have a male and female then yes keep them apart if you dont want them to breed.
as for males, well, everyone has their own views. i have got 2 males together and they are fine. they have no females around them and have never seen any, obviously though bets not to risk it.
food seems fine, and CGD will offer enough calcium yes.
you'll need a water spray to spray them once a day too.

viv- been looking at a extra large exo terra one . Perfect!
substrate - kitchen roll for babies and sand when they are older ? Sand no good at all, kitchen roll good, newspaper good, eco earth good
heat/light - strip light 2.0 uv Not required but does't hurt so long as they can hide from it
food - CGD every two days / dusted crickets the other two days - perfect
viv accessories- plenty plants / bark to climb and hide in - They love weeping fig type plants, if you plan to keep more than one, then plenty of hiding places help.
is it best to keep them seperate unless wanting them to breed ? - They won't mind being sperate or in groups etc, in groups you will find them more entertaining. With regards to breeding, if you don't want babies then don't incubate the eggs or keep the male seperate
obviously dont keep to males together - Is possible and can be done but is less of a worry if you do keep males seperate
does CGD offer enough calcium or would calcium be needed too ? - CGD offers a COMPLETE diet, nothing else is required. I wouldn't add anything to the CGD but feel free to dust any live insects you may use
any thing else that i will need as im starting from scratch - Buy a good book, Allen Repashy / De Vosjoli book is about the best. Other than that you have everything covered above, Cresteds are great and simple to keep. Just keep an eye that your temps don't go to high, around 78f is great. _________________

nice one , thanks for the real good replies .
two more questions
1 . you say that the light isnt needed . i take it you mean the uv bit and not the light its self . or is the daylight coming into the room enough ? not that im planning on not using a light .
2 also do they need fresh water everyday ? will i have to put a little water dish down for them ? or will the spraying provide this ? _________________ Eyeless frogs welcome...

if you've got live plants the light will be needed but if you're just gonna have fake ones then it up to you wether you have it or not
i have a small water bowl in my viv i change the water every day cuz when they jumo about they get bits in it n sometimes manage to poop in it! but they will drink the spray off the sides n off plants n things over the water bowl, but put one in incase they fancy a drink when the vivs not wet
