Beaded, not bearded mate,
both separate lizards,
Heloderma horridum - Beaded lizard
Heloderma suspectum - Gila monster
Both from the American deserts though

you have to remember that in scientific magazines, like all magazines, they are trying to sell tham. they tend therefore to try and go for "sexy" science, i.e. trying to take things to the extreme and go for shock factor. It wouldn't be such a gripping article if they didn't stretch the truth a bit.... _________________ Kat |

I don't think Dr B.Fry has to jazz up his articles for people to read them
Don't forget this isn't the "dailly star" we are talking about, these are FULLY researched articles.
You're welcome not to believe his research, but i would suggest that when this man and his colleagues release data you read and inwardly digest _________________ TFA

I dont think new scientist go for any shock value really as its not really going to make anymore people buy it. Its new scientist! you buy it if your interested in new findings and are genuinely interested. I cant imagine anyone buying new scientist by the cover. |

I find the Beano and Dandy to contain useful information. _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

its a commercial magazine, of course they ham it all up a bit. Yes it is for people interested in science but they still have to try to get peoples interest, as well as compete with the other scientific magazines. I was trying to go for an analogy, not say its like some cheesy newspaper (which by the way I love, some of the stories in there are just so funny). I have to read a billion scientific papers for my dissertation, and believe me if the articles in the magazine were as dry and factual you wouldn't buy it. _________________ Kat |
