Hi Shelle,
The best rule of thumb for cresteds is that if the size is roughly equal then you can keep them together. If they turn out to be a pair then they will breed when they are ready, I personnally don't worry about the females being too young...I let them make that decision . If they do turn out to be two males, then in your situation I would keep them seperate. As Stuart pointed out, I do keep males together, I have a cage with up to 8 in and have never had a bite between them and they are all fine, I also have 2 males in some of my breeding cages (2. 8 ).
Shanna, I think the reason why it works with mine is because I provide a massive area of hides, basically egg crate (carton) stacked on it's side all the way along the back wall. So there is plenty of places to hide from disputes etc. I have very few out of my entire Crested collection that have lost their tails (maybe 4 out of 180'ish).
I certainly don't recommend keeping male cresteds together but it does seem to work fine in my collection. _________________
