Just had my first egg of the season!!!
From my Rhinoclemmys trio (painted wood turtles). Just one very large egg. These guys lay 1 to a few eggs every few weeks or so. The eggs are huge in relation to the turtle, but have a high survival rate (in theory!).
Fingers crossed for a couple of months time...

that's good news, well done.
So what did you provide for a laying site etc? _________________

Hi Scott
I didn't really use a laying site. I use a few inches of moist bark chips as a substrate, with a few handfuls of moss mixed in. She layed the egg half buried, right on the edge of where a heat mat sits under the substrate. I'm guessing that this was a trade off between warmth and moisture. The warmer areas had dried out significantly at the time.
The last time I saw mating/attempted mating was in the autumn, which seems a really long gestation?
If anyone comes across any info on keeping/breeding these guys then I'd be grateful.
Cheers,
Mark. |
