There's some interesting views and opinions in this thread, many I don't really agree with but it's still good to read what others think.
Personally for me I do not have an issue with Wild Caught in general, I don't feel that the majority of species (if kept correctly) suffer in any way in terms of lack of freedom, boredom etc.
I think the main valid points about the issues with wild caught are the methods of capture, method of 'storing' prior to exporting, packing for export and how they are treated once arrived at the wholesalers. These are all things that can be fixed if there not too good.
The last thing that annoys me with wc is the choice of species that often come in, quite a few aren't suited to 'mass' trade (like green igs and bosc monitors) and unfortunately the vast majority of wc seems to end up in the 'pet shop' type retailers rather the the more specialist reptile outlets.
I find it hard to see how you could justify the 'lack of freedom' for wild caught is a good reason not to keep them but it's ok for CB. I don't really believe the 'they never knew any different' counts for much with reptiles. _________________

Lynne,
I haven't said I'm right and your wrong, I'm just saying I don't agree with your thoughts and here are my thoughts as to why.
I hardly ever say what's right and wrong but always try and post my 'feelings', 'thoughts' & experiences
I think one of the problems with many threads on forums is that people feel the need to be right, when in fact it's about sharing opinions and view points, then discussing why you believe in that view or opinion etc.
The reason I don't don't believe that 'they have never known the difference' really matters is because I have seen so many wc reptiles settle in just as well as CB. As I posted before I have seen the wild caught importing side of the reptile business first hand, not once or twice but over many years. _________________
