Ok to all you seasoned breeders and keepers, a silly question from a novice, i hear talk of markers in royals, could somebody please explain this to me. And pics would be nice if possible please Very Happy

Hi Karen, I'm probably not going to be the most amount of help here as I'm still learning the markers myself, but thought I'd have a bash at explaining for you. I don't know how much you know about any of it and don't want to assume you don't know anything, so I'll kind of aim for a general explanation and hopefully avoid offending Laughing

The basic low down is that certain morphs or royal pythons can be identified by 'key' markings/colours/patterns on them, for example the het pieds with the tracks down either side of their bellies towards their tails, some however don't have these so it helps to know what the parents were. Yellow Bellies for example don't always have a hit of yellow on their bellies at the edges of their belly scales and to all intents and purposes look like normals, others have the checker pattern at the edges and have the hint of or yellow bellies. I think the hets are the most challenging ones because generally they look normal with hints here and there for what they are het for if you know what you are lookng for Laughing

I'm still learning I must admit, but I've learnt ALOT recently and I'm still on the knowledge quest and I'm going through books like they are going out of fashion, I have to say tht so far the VPI book is far and beyond the best one I've read on Royals with all the informationa nd detail in there, along with the Ron Tremper one on Leopard Geckos.
www.ballpythons.ca is also one I like as you can do the belly roll on the snakes and see what their bellies look like Very Happy
