Consultation on changes to the arrangements for licensing the keeping of dangerous wild animals
http://www.defra.gov.uk/corporate/consult/wildanimalsact/index.htm
The Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976 was put in place to protect the public from the threat posed by the private keeping of these dangerous wild animals.
Review of the Act found that although there have been no reported serious injuries to the public as a result of escaped dangerous wild animals since the Act’s introduction, there is compelling circumstantial evidence to support claims of levels of non-compliance. Previous consultation found strong support for revision of the Act.
These proposals are intended to be in line with Government’s intention to deregulate where desirable and should assist with increasing support and compliance amongst animal keepers and in more effective operation of the Act.
The closing date for responses to this consultation is 22 August 2008 _________________

in theory the changes will be for the better .
As I understand, the proposed revision it will not make obtaining a licence any easier - but will reduce the burden on those who already have a licence. - such as biannual renewal - changes to the inspection process, removal of welfare considerations etc etc
