With regards to the question of too many shows, I personally don't think so, that is why we are having a Show in Kent.
However, it would be nice to have two or three big shows, spread over the UK, rather than lots of little shows.
I know that the current laws make this awkward, but the bigger shows will attract the bigger companies, it is nice to have a hall full of Private Breeders selling their stock, but how much better to have halls attached selling all the dry goods that goes with them. It would be a good way for the Online suppliers to get involved too.
Add an exhibition area and lectures throughout the day and you have yourself a great day out that will have even the armchair hobbyist visiting.
It wouldn't be easy, but it is possible. It is also possibly the best way to go, There is strength in numbers.
