Already posted this just changed heading to hopefully get more of a response

I have two Californian King snakes, one is really content and happy, the other tries to eat itself, it had 6/7" of it's tail down its throat, then when he regurgitates his tail he then bites himself and holds on for ages??? I don't know why it does this, is this normal? I have only had these snakes for a week, and noticed that the tail wasn't as clean looking as the rest of the body, they are both around 10 years old. I think it has been doing this to himself for a while going by the marks on the tail, is there anything I can do to stop this? is this normal? He can be handled even whilst biting himself, he was last fed Saturday 10th May 2008 with two medium sized mice, he has a bowl of water in his Viv, heating, they are in separate Viv's as I know they cant be put together. Can anyone help Please? much appreciated

That is really worrying, that he keeps doing it. Yes I have heard and seen pics before of snakes that have done this, heard of a couple calis, even my own bite herself a few times, this was always done whilst in feeding mode....does yours always do it after a feed?

I honestly don't know what you could do to stop it, it could be a neurological problem. just don't know. Question

I'm sure there was a thread about this a while back, where someone's king snake did this. If I remember rightly, the vet came to the conclusion that it was neurological, but I'm not sure what was done to treat it, if anything.

Have you had the snake all its life, or is it recently acquired? Has the vet seen it?

i have heard of this too. never actually came across it though. i think it was found to be nueralogical(however you spell it!!!!). make sure when you feed him the mouse doesnt come into contact with any part of his tail. (smell). and just watch him after he eats. i saw a thread about this on another forum. i will try and find it and paste you the link.

I have also heard of this before and in Cali Kings. Wonder if it can be passed on to offspring if anybody has breed from one before. Confused
