hay guys i keep hearing from a local shop that the beetles are bad for lizards to eat why is this. |

The beetles are 'bad to eat' because they are unpalatable, i.e. not many lizards will eat them.
I do feed them to small/baby turtles with no problems...

Geckos: Phelsuma, Ptychozoon.

My beardies have always taken them no problem ... but then my beardie will eat anything ... depends on the lizard i spose ..  _________________ Cheers

apparently they have a pretty vile taste so not much will take them...
my gekcos will eat the odd one every now and then but for the most part they wont touch them.
we also lost a few fire bellied toads around 8 years ago that were bitten by the beetles, I am not aware of any toxins in the beetles bite but all 5 toads bitten by the beetles died within a few hours with only a very small mark on them.
Not sure how much of a problem they are to other animals, but I would aire on the side of caution from my own experiences |
