Just went into the living room and the TV was off etc so was really quiet. Started to feed the toads which are in a large aquarium with very shallow water. Could hear a strange noise which at first I thought was the central heating playing up. Only thing is it is definatly coming from the tank. Cant see any of the toads trying to make any noise Very Happy the pump in there isnt on..... The only thing I can describe it as is like running a wet finger down a pane of glass. Doesnt sound anything like what I would imagine the toads to sound like....do they make a typical toad/frog croak? Or a more sinister "finger down a wet pane of glass noise" lol.

Its either the toads or something odd going on with my aquarium! And it doesnt diminish when I open lid etc.

They seem to make two different noises. One is calling, and is single soft notes, sounding somewhat like a dog barking in the distance. The other is a rapid succession of notes, Usually heard when a male grabs another male by mistake. Females make this noise too, but much quieter.

Ha have to revive this thread as the noise I was hearing I pinned down to the mechanical timer clock intergrated into the aquarium lid that made a funny noise as it whirred round.

However the toads have started barking!! I was about to go outside to see where the yapping dog was barking in the distance......then realised it was the toads.

Its definatly the softer sound.... I had not previously had a water heater in the tank as the water temp was showing around 70-72 and was fairly constant. Now I have put a small water heater in to keep a constant 76-78 which I realised was more ideal and they have sprung to life.

I was reading one care sheet which states you have to "winter" them before breeding commences.....is this definatly the case? If so I guess I have missed out this year unless I try it artificially although if the summer is warm will be hard to keep temps down.
