Have heard in conversation that people selling royals too cheaply and the rapid price drops in certain morphs is damaging the industry.Thats one side of the argument. Then there are people who say that with the price drops you are opening up a huge untapped market as the average collector can now afford some royal morphs.
I bring this up because untill recently i was only interested in lizards and being your average working class man could not afford royal morphs untill now.
Would love to hear collectors/breeders and shop keepers views and thoughts on this.Everyone play nice now though, lol |

I agree with you about its nice we can now afford royal morphs but are you so sure its not good for the sellers as now there are lots more buyers.Question is does more buyers balance out the price drop in the right direction. |

i think it could be that more royals ae being produced so the high end morphs are being replaced so the prices are going down because the high end morphs are being replaced so they have to get cheeper
and i also think it could be because the orphs are getting old like way back when royals and thing were first being kept prices were sky hight and that was just for wild type morphs and now they are dirt cheep _________________ jack

The whole collective madness, that is the royal python morph market is another case of "Tulipmania". I am sure the prices will come crashing down. |

Once Royal Morphs are available to the general public at affordable prices the market will go boom.
The colour variations in Royals are huge and once they come down to the £100 to £200 price range then you have the whole UK market interested, not just the breeders and collectors.
Obviously the more babies available the cheaper they will become but this is a good thing. Healthy competition will drive the prices down and get them into the shops.
Remember without the shops there would be no reptile trade or hobby. |

Iam glad somebody has mentioned this as i was only thinking about it the other day when i should of been working. Ill try to explain my opinions and i hope it makes sense to you. I think as more people are producing more morphs they are selling them at lower prices to get the more people to buy from them and getting the cash sooner. This is good for some but bad for alot of others mainly breeders as this will force other breeders to reduce their prices and its a downward spiral from then onwards. If breeders are willing to hold onto their stock abit longer and hold out to get a higher price for them then the market wont price wont fall as quickly. But i still think with new morphs being discovered and more combos being produced their will always be really high end morphs that normal people like me would have to sell an arm, leg and a kidney to buy one |

I've just started to get back into the Morphs, i blame Scott !!!
They are now far more affordable for me, and i should have some great animals in the coming months.
A lesser at 7k which is what they were a few years back, was way out of my league, but now at around 1k are now a possibility
At last i can afford some of the Morphs i've been hankering after for ages |

Natural price drops due to supply and demand are great and I look forward to them, Price drops because someone can't be bothered to look after the babies they have just produced so need to sell quick are in my mind slightly irresponsible.
As the price drops due to more animals being produced, then yes the price will without doubt drop but then exactly as you say it does open the doors to a lot more buyers BUT it should be balanced.
I find it hilarious when I see an advert for a snake for say £1500, then 1 week later the same animal is being advertised for £1200, then because they still haven't sold they suddenly become available at say £1000. Is that right? Should you judge supply and demand on just 3 weeks of placing an advert? Of course not, perhaps that £1500 buyer is on holiday or just hasn't noticed your advert
I believe in prices being fair and reflecting the animals involved, good healthy well grown snakes shouldn't be compared to straight out the egg 'two feeds if your lucky' type stock that somehow has the nasty habit of setting new prices in the market place.
BTW great post and question Alex. _________________
