Ok serious question. Where do people think the royal morph scene is going. There seem to be an increasing number of more and more complex morphs being produced, and there seem to be endless variations possible. Prices being asked for these are astronomical, based on their complexity and rarity value, not always, I think, on their beauty. I think that a wild type is a lot nicer than, say a cinamon. Imagine if it was the other way round and a wild type was a morph of a normal cinamon coloured snake. People would rave about it.
Presumably the law of supply and demand would indicate that prices will in the future come down as I presume happened with corn morphs.
As a newcomer, I dont know how much prices have dropped over the past few years. Example, pieds seem to be about £2500 now. how much were they 5 years ago.
So what do people think?

Yes I too would like to hear other peoples thoughts. Noticed that Spiders have virtually halved in price in the last year or so, and are now about the same price as a nice Pastel. Is it to be expected that all co-doms will also come down to the same level ?

price drops are inevitable i know when i first started looking at albino's they where £3500 - £3000 now there between £850 and £600. But if you look at other morphs such as pieds they have held there price. I do wonder how much the market can take though, something which is never discussed is the normals, with the much larger numbers of people breeding for the desirable morphs many normals or possible hets are been created, are there enough people out there for them? Hopefully if nothing else the practice of importing wild caught and wild farmed animals should become unnecessary.
Just my thoughts

Your base morphs will drop in price because more and more people are breeding and selling them. Lets say these guys are the beginner snakes for many and priced up to @ $1500 US.

The price range between $1500 and $3500 are most of the double genetic mutations. Ivory's, bees, lemon blasts and such.

The next level is $3500 and up. This contains all the triple and quad morphs and some of the harder to make double recessives.

As time passes and more people can buy and produce what is in each level then that mutation will eventually slip into the next lower price range.

All the while the newer triple, quad and quints morphs will replace the higher end range.

One of our presidents said it best, "It's the trickle down theory."

I have heard it said that balls are the next African Corn Snake in regards to the market and morphs.

Eventually they all will be under a few hundred dollars each. May take a decade or two but it will eventually happen.

This doesn't take into account the people that will always undercut prices to move their wares. They just speed up the process of trickling down.

I agree, and I wonder if the silly prices being asked will continue. There are a few of the new morphs which i do not think hold a candle to a wild type in terms of beauty and i suspect that these will not continue.

MMMMMMMMMMM
This topic comes up regular and is very interesting.
How you feel about it all depends on what angle you come from.
I think a lot of hobbyists who buy what they like the look of, as opposed to an investment, relish the uniqueness and rarity as well as the beauty of their animals. If they become common and cheap it will take away some of the sparkle.
It is nice if you manage to produce some babies and
a: they are sought after
b: you can get some serious money for your surplus which can fund even more exotic morphs Laughing
Good advice is buy what you want as a pet and buy the best you can afford.......
If you really want to help the U.K. morph market, know is the time it can probably sustain its self, if we all buy u.k. Captive Bred.
Only my thoughts and I am sure someone will put me straight.

i think its wrong to class any animal or rep as an investment. as value is always going to go down and practically never up.
