Just walked into the room to find my pair of nose horned vipers mating....bit strange, thought they mated after hibernating not a few weeks before?
sorry about poor photo...didn't want to disturb them. _________________

Best of luck Scott, ammodytes babies are so cute but they're tiny. Really love little snakes |

like I always say Stu, with reptiles there are very few hard rules.
I checked them this morning and they are still at it. Will be interesting to see if she produces live babies, this would prove the male didn't need to hibernate to produce fertile sperm. _________________

I know of ammodytes breeding without hibernation at all, jus a seasonal dip in temperature...produced a fair sized clutch if I remember rightly with no slugs |

well after 3 months she finally produced unfertilised 'slugs', about 7. Not stripped the cage out to check if there is any live young but I am pretty sure there aren't.
Basically she has produced mated and produced these at the completely opposite time of year than she should of done. Perhaps that aircon I use was set a bit too low last summer _________________

Looking at them makes me want to get my DWA,if only i could convince the girl friend. The closest i've come to a venemous snake was about 8yrs ago,I was in a local reptile shop when the man who ran it showed me a small container full of branches,i asked him what was in it,he said take the lid of and have a look as i did i was tagged on a finger by a small green Bothrops, luckily it hit my finger nail. The guy who owned it just stood there laughing at me,nice ah |
