|
|
Just wondered what peoples views were on buying (or seeing for sale) ball pythons with 'paperwork'. I don't mean CITES import papers, I mean 'breeders' papers that are suppose prove the genetics.
I had someone ask mean once if my het pieds had 'paperwork' to prove they were hets. They didn't as I had not bothered to design and print anything off computer but that's just the point...anyone can print a piece of paper to say it's 100% het, does this actually prove anything?
My answer to the gentleman was that No currently I didn't have a piece of paper to prove it's genetics BUT I did have my reputation and that of the actual breeder (BallPythons.ca), which niether of us would want to lose for the sake of a few £'s on het pieds.
I guess the question is Do you feel more confident buying from a stranger who has a printed 'breeders cert' that states it's genetics or would you sooner buy from someone you knew? Does this 'paperwork' make you more confident with the sale or do you just think that it's not really worth the paper it's printed on?
To be honest before I sold my first ball python morphs I did design a Certificate of Authenticity to go with each sale, this had two photos of each snake and a unique code reference that anyone could give me and I could trace the snake back etc but I never actualy got around to doing any.
By the way, this isn't aimed at any one person selling balls, just an observation over the last few months from a large amount of adverts _________________

I have some snakes with papers, and ones without. I trusted both breeders so didn't really mind. On the plus side, i have a certificate that's signed by a reputable breeder, and if there was any disputes when i came to sell them, i could prove i was sold them by a certain individual, with the signature etc.. it also acts the same way as a receipt of purchase i find.
I'd obviously like reputable over paperwork, but paperwork just makes it feel like the purchase is complete i guess? |

I think it helps when you don't know the breeder for piece of mind and something with their name on stating what they are suppose to be. I've imported hets from someone I completely trust. I have spent well with him and the last thing he would do is ruin a very lucrative relationship for the price of a few hets. However I am selling a couple of them. So for piece of mind he micro chipped them and then provided an invoice for them. The ones I am keeping I did not bother doing this. I think as I have not bred them its very important for a buyer to have both the breeders name and mine on the paperwork along with the chipping. I would certainly feel happier knowing that, than no paperwork at all. Should anyone be let down then its both our reputations (in writing) at stake. BUT, I think you are right Scott, I would trust a friend not to let me down. Having said that, there not always quite your friend when moneys involved!!!
