Does anyone know if calcium sacs are a good way to sex P.laticauda? I have trouble getting my day gecko to stay still to see his femoral pores clearly...and trying to catch him is a joke _________________

Often the chalk / calcium sacs are more pronounced in females but males can also have these as well. So to answer your question: No, this is not a full proof method of sexing phelsuma.
Far more accurate is to look at the vent area, the femoral pores are more pronounced and visible in males.
Camp out in front of the vivarium for a few hours, hopefully your gecko will come to the front of the vivarium!!!!! _________________ Fraser Gilchrist

If you don't have much luck with what Fraser suggested, try and coax the gecko into a plastic container so you can get a better look
When I did this with my laticauda she was on some bamboo, I kind of distracted her with my left hand whislt I lifted out the bamboo she was on, slowly. I then grabbed a near by plastic tub and and 'scared' her up the bamboo into the tub I was holding at the end. She couldn't see the clear plastic, and I had enough time to put the bamboo down and get the lid
Just make sure you clear a nice area around the viv, just in case the gecko evades you and sprints into a nice crevice _________________ Steve P |
