well you all think its the nerd book that all this info is in! i was given two books as gifts. they were both by well known breeders, and to be honest the best book i have on balls, is by someone people probably wouldnt know!
one of the best snakes i have upstairs was bred by a guy in birmingham, again someone you probably wouldnt know.
i am capable ofmaking my own mind up, but also realise that when it comes to animals/reps that, a lot of people WONT agree with me as i am fanatical about their well being. i caused a rumpus in a pet shop once cause every fish tank had at least one dead fish in each of them.
i do listen to and respect everyones right to their own opinion.
anything i write is MY opinion, and i dont try and push this on to anyone else. and i also dont try to write comments that hurt other people, but if i happen to do this, then i apologise profusely.

Hi Lynne,

What was the other book? Have you a copy of the Barkers Ball python book, that's superb.

no i dont have that one, but will get it. the one im talking about is 'the complete ball python manual'. its so good with tips and hints and all stuff like but it is quite a thin book, you would think there was not a lot in it and probably pass it by. i love reading books. going to search amazon for that one.

Final point from me.
Having just looked at the "offending" book, I cannot see much that would cause me concern.
Page 284 shows a hatchery, but this is in the middle of a village and the buildings shown are human habitation.
Next few pages are showing trappers catching snakes. By default this happens if you want snakes or eggs.
288 is an excavated nest of incubating eggs.
Pages 90 and 291 show inside the hatchery with many eggs. This isn't how we do it, but the eggs are not dirty. The red on them is from the soil they are incubating on.
Not meaning to patronise anyone else but what, in this book has caused so much concern?

Tis not only this book but other pictures I have stumbled across on the net and through talking to other people who have the same views as me, I have seen pictures of the females being killed after she has laid her eggs, I have also seen pictures of the young being ripped from their eggs before they have even finished hatching and flown half way round the world before even being checked on. Certainly not the western way.

Can you show us any of these pictures?

i never voted because i'm slightly mixed, in the way of thinking of CFing.

I'd also be contradicting myself if i said bad, because i have a long time captive royal.

I'd say i'm more for, than against, going by the way this debate has went and the small amount i've seen. I'd like to find out the name, authors, and version of the ball python manual that has lynne so against it as well, so i can take a look for myself. If nothing is brought up, then i'll trust my better judgement on those with first hand experience. From what i've seen from NERD, and Gorzula's DVD i see no harm, and in fact, more good.

What has slightly irritated me, is the way it's been referenced as dirty grotty holes or what ever.. and i have to say this... i think it's a total shame people can even comment on the way these people live, because it's not their ideal world. Doesn't matter if you believe it's their governments fault, they have to get on with life the best they can. Royals will be found in rodent burrows, a slight difference from the hygenic conditions we keep ours in... so for goodness sake, open your minds a little. Smile
