We acquired Sweetpea the Argentine longnose (Philodryas baroni) sometime in October last year, can't quite remember exact dates.
She was a non feeder, whereas her male counterpart was ferocious. Unfortunately he died due to an enlarged heart and that left us with Miss Pea. She has blossomed into one of the prettiest snakes I have ever seen. Shes very calm for this species due to my constant handling of her, and has never shown a hint of aggression despite being a rear fanged snake.
Both myself and my partner just adore her. Shes his favorite and infrequently gets a fuzzy or two "to cheer her up" (Ed's own words) when shes not even due fed. Perhaps that's why shes a 5ft yearling? :grin01:
You will notice the photography getting better as I go through her progression LOL
Here she is the day she arrived, an 11 inch mighty green worm!
A few months later
Around 7 months old
9 months
10 months
12 months old
And finally, 14 months old, Sweetpea is a big green monster! Shes getting lots of lovely blue colouration around her head, and her belly is lovely and pink! I can't wait to see how this girl progresses throughout the years. She will be a 7ft monster in no time!

I like to think so, I want another pair. I don't think we would ever breed from Sweetpea. She had a bad start to life, and if we lost her through breeding complications (which is very common with this species) we would be devastated.
If we got another pair, then we would try to breed from them. |

Hi Montage,
The initial breeding problems experienced by Andreas Hohmeister(I'm assuming you're referring to his article, that I sent you), do not seem to be the norm with true c/b specimens. Apart from two incubators failing on me this year, my P . baroni have been a joy to breed. All of the breeders of this species, that I have liaised with, confirm this.
I would try to keep the weight down slightly on the female,(...if Baz is lurking hopefully he will chip in), they can burn themselves out with their "feeding response"!
Some hatchlings need tease feeding, as your female did, for a few feeds but soon become very solid feeders.
I have seen a picture of a blue headed green and heard of a yellow morph recently. With the blue and brown phases, I think this species will hold my attention for a few years to come!
Cheers

hi mark, it was me you sent the german paper too
elle pics make the female look bigger than she is that combined with elle's little hobbit hands makes her look fatter than she is
i feed her once every 10 days and then only a single adult mouse and recently chicks for a change for her.
really wish i still had the male.
