From http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/05/070523093959.htm,
First in a petri dish and now on live salamanders, probiotic bacteria seem to repel a deadly fungus being blamed for worldwide amphibian deaths and even extinctions. Though the research is in its early stages, scientists are encouraged by results that could lead the way to helping threatened species like mountain yellow-legged frogs of the Sierra Nevada mountains of southern California.
Experiments have shown that Pedobacter cryoconitis, bacteria found naturally on the skin of red-backed salamanders, wards off the deadly chytridiomycosis fungus. In late 2004, Australian researchers cited chytridiomycosis as one of the main factors imperiling up to one third of the world's amphibian populations. _________________

I got the same tam...
I think I have heard of this idea before, it will be interesting to see how things go with it. If its a commensal organism of redbacks (which like thingscool) its possible that it might not thive in more tropical amphibians due to competition with their own comensals or unfavourable environmental conditions. However i'm sure its worth a shot! _________________ Interested in amphibians? Join us at Myamphibia for friendly banter, amazing pictures and great information. Make some amphibious friends today! |

When the new window opens up, take the final comma out of the address and hit the go button, it will now open up the article.
I knew Louise and her punctuation would come a cropper one day.
