i have a 6 month old royal and would like to breed when all is ready. i think he's a male but theres no way of finding out on the isle of wight!!!
I have done all the textbook research and am starting to read up on morphs and genetics but none of which answers my question...
i was wondering if you guys breed siblings with the parents or is that simply not the done thing?
if the answers yes then would they mate ok?

Yep fancy only being interested in one species
Breeding siblings together or back to parents is certainly not a big deal especially when starting with unrelated adults with no signs of genetic problems.
The snakes themselves won't know they are commiting incest either
It is always a good idea to out cross again further down the line too.
As for sexing your snake, try placing an advert on the classifieds to see if anyone is located near you _________________

yeah thanks, i might do that but with working nights that can be a problem!
a friend has corn snakes and showed me how to pop them, its simple and harmless if done gently/firmy/swiftly and said its the same for royals.
i know a lot of people will say only get someone who has done it before on royals but i was 100% happy i could do it properly.
i went home and examined this article ( http://www.vpi.com/publications/determining_the_sex_of_snakes ) to check before i did it.
after that i went and got monts out and did it with no problem, he didnt mind at all, just wondered what i was doing with his bits
now the problem i have is telling the difference between female and male! by looking at the two pics on the link above it looks like a female as i could see what looked like scent gland papillae, kind of like little ants eggs either side of the very slightly cloaca.
i would have taken a pic but didnt have a spare hand
please can you let me know what it sounds like to you, it would be very helpful.
regards, mike... _________________

There is no playing around..certain posts have been removed from a few threads in this section due to certain people trying to "spoil" them. _________________
