howdy people its me again ive been thinking it through and i want to start keeping royals as a pet then later on maybe try and breed. but i need to narrow down a few things firstly. what type of heat is needed in it's viv or container? would it be a heat mat on a thermo? or somthing else? i know royals do not like alot of space so wouldnt they do well in vivariums? im not sure about this so i thought i'd ask you guys if you could help that be great cheers. Mine do well in tubs, some will do fine in viv's.
4 or 9 litre really useful tub for hatchling/grown on royals
50 litre really useful tub for adults.
(335 x 210 x 140 - 9 litre really useful, 335 x 210 x 70 - 4 litre really useful, 50litre really useful 605 x 370 x 200)
Medium contico's for hatchling/grown on royals
Large contico's for adults (smallish adults < 2kg)
(400 x 280 x 140mm Medium contico 15” x 11” x 5.5”
560 x 410 x 150mm Large contico 22” x 16” x 5.9”)
That's about as good a rule i can put forward. If you find a tub, with dimension like those, use it.
Heat matt/strip under the tub, on a pulse thermostat, put the probe either on the heat matt/strip (best way for housing multiple royals with one stat), or inside the hide ( if inside the hide, preferably on the surface of the tub so it doesn't burn your snake - i also only recommend this if you are housing a single snake with the one thermostat). Set it to 90F, measure the temperature with a thermometer probe (next to thermostat probe). Get a hide, water bowl, and some newspaper for substrate. I really do believe it is that simple. |

Or stick it in a viv
I keep my hatchlings in 1.5ft x 1.5ft x 2ft's and never had a problem, larger ones work up by a ft of snake 1.5ft of viv until I get to adults(I only have one adult at the minute) but she is getting put into a 5ft viv this weekend as she is doing great in the 4ft and roaming about looking for more space.
Tubs work well for a lot of people when space can be an issue or when they prefer tubs, I keep two hognoses in tubs because they do better in them like I know a lot of peoples royals do.
Entirely up to you as long as you have a happy healthy snake its down to personal choice. _________________ MORE THAN 2! |
