Hi
This is a genuine Qs not a joke Embarassed

One of my baby royals went mad for and eagerly ate a defrost rat pup/fuzz. Am I right in saying that it is better to get them onto rats as soon as possible?
the rat had just started to get its fur. Size of a weaned/medium mouse.
I am sure I read somewhere that smaller rat pups lack somet of what baby snakes need?

thanks
mike

I try to get most things ( size permitting) on to rat items as some can be a pain to switch over at a later date.

i have to have mine on mice for a while as my local pet store only does rats at large weaner and above so they are far too big for young royals but if i had the choice id have them on rats asap

thanks guys, you have convinced me, this darling who was one of my shyest hatchlings got some courage when smelt a rat. Laughing

All my royal hatchlings have now fed. My 3 albinos have fed twice and 2 of the hets have fed twice.

I personally prefer to feed rats to my royal. I believe they are more nutritious. The only adult snake I have on mice is my rehomed corn, and she's prone to weight gain, so I find that mice are less fatty.

Aw. Can I come and feed your albinos?
That ones got the rat pretty well. All my snakes are pretty half-arsed and only get the single coil around it. My older royal doesn't even bother with a full coil!

If you bring your own rats defo Laughing

When they strike and throw a coil, I get hold of the mouse/rat (forceps) and gently tug at it, usually it makes the royal dig in and think its got a fight on its hands.

I am going to get some rat pups soon.
I was given fuzzies for my baby royal but she has a thick body and I have heard to feed about the size of the widest part of the body.
Should I opt for rat pups or what?
I think she could handle a fair bit bigger than the mouse fuzzy.
but she hasn't fed with me yet.

hi
How long have you had the snake?
Was she feeding defrost mice fuzzies before you got her?
Is CB or CF
How many feeds did she have with the previous owner?
Letting the snake settle in and feed a few times on whatever food is way to go. Try both rat pups and mice.
see pic of how I keep my babies.
