i wonder if anyone can help me with some advice. before i start yes i will be taking this gecko to the vets tomorrow asap.
i have a 2 year old male pine island chahoua that has been acting a little strange for about 2 weeks now. i couldn't quite put my finger on what was wrong with him but he just didn't look his usual spritely self. he was in with a female at the time but when he looked a little off colour i moved him to a separate isolation faunarium where he has been since. he was in with a female for a few months at the end of last year and again with the same female for 2 months from February this year. that female unfortunately died due to a calcium crash after becoming egg bound at the end of march despite a 4 day stay at the vets where she was induced to lay her eggs. at the beginning of may i put as different female in with him and they seemed to be getting along fine although no signs of breeding. the female is absolutely fine and i have had her in my care for over a year now so i am sure to the best of my knowledge that she was not carrying any pathogens (she had been in with another male previously that is also fine). the male in question however has still looked a bit off colour for the last two weeks i wasn't sure if he was just a bit depressed (bizarre thought i know but he did seem to mope around following the death of his mate and that was what spurred me to put the other female in with him in an attempt to cheer him up if this was the case). he has been in a large plastic faunarium with coconut fiber substrate a piece of bark 2 plants and a water bowl with no additional heating (my animal room is always around 26 degrees C) with just a 5.0 exoterra UV bulb over his tank. he has appeared to be thirsty every time i spray him as he rapidly lick's up the water droplets. he looks as if he is a bit unsteady on his feet and doesn't move around much although does climb the piece of bark and sit on it (for most of the day). he doesn't have any problems with sticking to the side of the tub and he shed fine a couple of days ago (he didn't eat his shed but sometimes he hasn't in the past either). today when i gave him a spray he had a sort of panic attack and tried to move away but he moved his head with a rocking motion from side to side as if he was off balance. he then proceeded to fall off his bark onto his back and then roll over onto his front looking very distressed. he crawled under a plant and that was where i left him as my presence was obviously distressing him. he hasn't gone off his food completely but he also hasn't eaten as much as usual (large brown crickets dusted with neutrobal and baby food with either neutrobal or zolcal-D mixed in along with a pinch of ace high, a pinch of spirulina and a pinch of bee pollen (a mix i have been using for a long time for my rhacos with no ill effect) he gets CGD occasionally too but doesn't tend to eat much of it.
i am presuming that there is some form of neurological damage as he is clearly off balance but i am unsure as to the trigger. i know people may think this may be a vitamin or calcium imbalance but i have seen both on a few occasions before and the symptoms are not the same (he is un balanced rather than tetanic twitching of his limbs).
if anyone has seen anything like this before i would appreciate their input .
i would take a photo except that would really help as he looks perfectly normal.
cheers in advance, Will _________________ 61 and counting |

woah, sounds like a real problem, only thing i couldve suggested wouldve been the calcium, i know in some cases the gecko can seem drunk. Obviously a vet would be able to go more into depth and maybe find a completely different diagnosis. Good Luck, hope the lil guy pulls through. _________________ [3.2.6 R.Ciliatus|1.4.7 R.Auriculatus

Any signs of head damage? Bite marks etc?
I am guessing that it's most likely connected vitamin / calcium related problems, could be too much or too little.
Best of luck with him. _________________
