Just taken in a royal female with fairly bad necrotic dermatitus, or thats what it looks like to me! I have an appointment with Dave Feldmar tomorrow morning but what can I do to help in the short term! She is in a 2x2x2 cube with newspaper, heating via a che which is guarded!viv has small heatmat 6"x6" which I have turned off. She has a hide and a small water bowl big enough to drink but not to get any more than her head and an inch of neck!

I have used salvon for many open wounds on reptiles (and burns) so far all have pulled through.
Never heard anyone else using it though. _________________

I'd be tempted not to use hydrogen peroxide yet as it looks quite raw and stick with some dilute hibiscrub for the moment. Apart from that make sure its well hydrated, your vet will be able to tell you all the rest. Aloe Vera is also very good for burns _________________ Regards James Stroud |

I agree, peroxide isnt going to help here (esp after recent questions brought up on constrictors). I would however raise ambient viv temps and drop humidity.
I don't think it is as bad as it looks , the skin is doen for but the flesh doesnt look too bad - but then i am no vet.
Savlon is CRACKING stuff for snakes IMO. I use it for just about everything from normal viv cleaning ect right through to killing mites. I would make up a bath for the snake but make it shallow, just deep enough to cover the belly of the snake. The natural movement should help get it into all the nooks and crannies.
The only area i would be really worried about is the cloaca. For obvious reasons this is a naturally dirty area you are going to need to pay particular attention to this on a dailly basis to make sure it stays clean.
Due to the raw flesh showing i would stay away from newspaper for now. I wouldnt be too keen on ink of any form getting close to the wounds. Pop down your local chippie and buy a pack of plain white paper, they wont ask much for it - or if you can get hold of a wholesalers card (ie Bookers) get over there and pick up a pack - it's cheap as chips (pun intended)
Other than that make sure you keep notes on exactly what you have done so when you go see Dave Feldmar you can let him know.
If it helps, i have seen worse injuries recover in no time. _________________ TFA
